As Covid-19 cases continue to surge, lockdowns have lifted for many states over the country. However, this does not mean you can stop taking precautions just yet. Over the months, many retailers and grocery stores have adopted different rules and regulations to keep customers and employees safe from the transmission of the virus. Just recently, a woman was arrested inside a Walmart in Oregon for not wearing a mask.
A Covid-19 outbreak in late October was also reported to have possibly been linked to a Costco store in Oregon.
Initially, Costco’s safety policy did not require people with medical conditions to wear any kind of face covering. However, the policy has now been updated. Starting November 16th Costco will require every member, guest (if you’re not a Costco member but accompanying someone who is), and employees to wear a face covering.
Costco’s president and CEO Craig Jelinek announced on the company’s official website that if some people have certain medical conditions and can not wear a face mask, they will be required to wear a face shield instead. This is a policy you will have to comply with if you wish to enter Costco’s stores. Only children under the age of 2 are exempted from the policy change. The statement made by Jelinek on Costco’s official website says
“The updated policy may seem inconvenient to some; however, we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience, our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees. Thank you for your cooperation and support.”
Costco also suggests all its members practice social distancing while they shop, by maintaining a distance of six feet between every person present at the store.
Also note that if you can not wear a face mask or a face shield due to a certain medical condition, you can avoid the risk of exposure by leaving your house by placing an order online through Costco’s official website. You can also choose CostcoGrocery to get basic grocery items delivered straight to your doorstep. Costco members in qualifying zip codes can also take full advantage of the retailer’s same-day delivery service, which uses Instacart (a national delivery service) to deliver perishable items including meat, produce, and seafood at your doorstep. If an item is out of stock, an Instacart shopper will give you a call or text to discuss a substitute or completely refund you. The minimum order value is $35. What a great way to stock up on your weekly or monthly grocery by also staying home and staying safe, thanks to Costco!
Costco is the second-largest retailer in the world, which operates over 500 warehouse stores in the United States alone.
