He’s 60 years old now, so it’s safe to say that it didn’t surprise him too much. But with the coronavirus pandemic is something we haven’t seen in a century. So, there are a few things that have surprised McMullen, considered one of the country’s foremost grocery experts, over the past 11 months.

Here is the official statement by the CEO “The biggest surprise is how much yeast people are buying,” said MacMullen. I’ve heard him mention it once before, much earlier in a pandemic. In fact, yeast sales among US retailers are up 98% to $ 120 million in 2020, according to market research firm Nielsen.

Behind this logical conclusion was that many people were baking more at home and making bread, they needed yeast. McMullen, Kroger CEO said that was only a small part of it. Another trend emerged at the front. “I still ask people, ‘What do people in the world do with all this yeast? “You can just bake a lot, and a little bit of yeast goes a long way.

Further in this regard he said that “Someone was explaining to me that more people make beer.” Yeast is responsible for fermentation in beer. Besides barley, water and hops, it is one of the four main ingredients in beer. While, Kroger is one of the largest employers in Louisville as you can see in the list below. Now, there’s no doubt that covid-19 have left a huge impact on our lives and the way we used to live.
