Trader Joe’s gives update on COVID-19 among store associates


Specialty grocer reports 2.4% worker infection rate since the start of the pandemic


Trader Joe’s have claimed that COVID-19 Safety measures were taken since the beginning of the Pandemic in the U.S. which has mitigated the Virus cases in its workforce.

Yesterday an update received in which Trader Joe’s have mentioned that 1250 Positive cases of COVID-19 found out of 53000 associates in eight months through 31 October. The Infection rate observed is 2.4%.

Monrovia grocer (based in California) has updated 24% had negative COVID results while in that time frame, whereas, 83% had zero to four cases from 514 stores in 42 states and the district of Columbia. 

Trader Joes have claimed that “We believe that the results in virtually all areas are below the average rates of positive cases in each community where we have stores.”

In this eight-month duration Trader Joes has faced two deaths of their associates and the company has claimed that for these two deaths Coronavirus is suspected to be one of the major causes of death. Those workers who were tested as positive for COVID-19 have completed their quarantine period whereas, 95% of workers were recovered and resumed their jobs.

Jon Basilone, President of stores, has mentioned that Trader Joes struggle for abrupt implementation of protective measures for COVID-19 prevention according to the CDC (Center for Disease Control)  which has paid off when it comes to safety for the employees and customer.

Jon Basilone stated; “The health and safety practices and procedures that have been put in place, and that continually evolve, have been effective because of the great work done by our crew members in every store, every day. We appreciate our crew members’ diligence and our customers’ patience as we work each day to make our stores safe for everyone.”

Trader Joe’s have shared COVID-19 Update which ensured transparency not only to the employees but also to the customers about the virus cases in their stores. According to CNN on 29th October 20% of grocery workers were found to have COVID-19

Trader Joe’s have further mentioned that; “Recent stories in the media have discussed the number of positive COVID-19 cases among grocery store workers, While we do not know the specific details of other grocers, we believe it is important to our crew members and customers to share and understand what has happened in our stores from the beginning of the pandemic through Oct. 31, 2020.”

UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers have been criticizing the grocery retailers that most of them do not have clear transparency about the deaths caused by COVID and those who are found positive with COVID-19.  In a declaration yesterday on the 2020 decisions, UFCW noticed that Corona Virus stays a danger to forefront laborers. Among UFCW’s basic food item participation cross country, in any event, 108 specialists have kicked the bucket from COVID-19 and over 16,300 laborers have been contaminated or presented to the infection, the association said.
