Leading and known name in the industry globally, Walmart has just announced new rules which will be imposed today! The leading store Walmart will be offering a free, compulsory covid-19 test for all New Mexico workers. They will be monitoring and will have to pass this test every two weeks for safety.
According to the company, they have confirmed its plan to offer to test to all Walmart partners in New Mexico every two weeks half will be tested for a week, and then the other half will be tested the following week. The first group will then be tested again the following week, allowing each factor to be tested individually every two weeks. This rule is only imposed for the betterment and to stop the increasing case.
In response to this statement Walmart said that “In coordination with Governor Logan Gresham, and in response to the state’s recent public health order, we have developed a plan to provide testing to all Walmart partners in New Mexico every two weeks,”
Furthermore, “We hope the increased testing data will help those responsible in their work to manage this health crisis,” the statement continued. “New Mexico has been hit hard by the virus and we want to continue partnering with the state to do our part while continuing to meet the basic food needs of the state’s residents.”
While in this race more and more companies are imposing new heath safety rules comparable to meatpacking companies like Tyson Foods have performed mandatory employee testing, few retailers do the same. Grocery giant Kroger was one of the first major retailers to offer free testing to workers, launching free at-home COVID tests in July.
In addition, the state of New Mexico has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases. Last week, Governor Lujan-Grisham issued an order prohibiting non-essential personal activities, shutting down personal operations in places such as gyms, restaurants, and offices. Health officials instructed all new Mexicans to “stay home except for outings so essential to health, safety, and well-being.”
“Every new Mexican must work together to stop the spread of COVID-19,” officials said in a statement. “Stay home, especially if you are sick. Wear a mask or face-covering in public places or near others.” Now, this is the best Walmart could do to stop the spread and to provide better space for their employees. What are your thoughts on it?
