What is Working Time Employee Schedule?

Arranging a schedule for employees is a challenge for every employer. Employees who want to take leave are sent for training, and there are days off in a given month. The employer must take all these situations into account. How do you correctly express them when drawing up a working schedule?

What is a working schedule, and what should it include?

The working schedule is nothing more than planning working days for people employed in a given workplace. In other words, it is a definition of an individual working schedule for one or group of employees.

The working schedule must take into account not only working days but also:

  • start and end time of work
  • working hours
  • working day
  • daily rests
  • weekly rests
  • 5-day work week
  • ensuring a free Sunday at least once every four weeks
  • non-working days
  • employees’ leaves included in the vacation plan

Working Time in the Schedule

For the employer to correctly draw up the working schedule, it should first specify how many hours employees should work in a given settlement period. Under Art. 130 of the Labor Code is established by:

  • Multiplying 40 hours (weekly norm) by the number of complete weeks of the billing period, and then
  • adding to the obtained number of hours the product of 8 hours (daily standard) and the number of days remaining until the end of the billing period, falling from Monday to Friday (the so-called projecting days), and further
  • deduction of the obtained result for each holiday occurring in the settlement period and falling on a day other than Sunday – 8 hours.

Working day and Working Time Schedule

When creating a working schedule, remember to provide the so-called working day. This means that when an employee starts work on a given day, on the next day, he cannot undertake his duties earlier than after 24 hours. To sum up, the employee should start the next working day at the same time as the previous day.

Daily rests

When planning work for the next period, it should also be considered that the employee must have uninterrupted rest between consecutive working days. According to Art. 132 of the Labor Code, it is at least 11 hours.

It should be remembered not to violate the working day. For both provisions to be complied with, an employee may not work more than 13 hours a day.

Weekly Rests and Working Time Schedule

Weekly rest should be understood as 35 hours of uninterrupted rest from work. Here it is impossible to deviate from such a rest, but it can be shortened to 24 hours. It is possible in the case of:

  • Employees managing the workplace on behalf of the employer,
  • the need to conduct a rescue operation to protect human life or health, protect the property or the environment, or remove a failure,
  • changes in the time of work in connection with the transition to another shift following the agreed schedule of working time.

5-day work week

The work schedule should also consider that the average working week lasts five days. Yes, when arranging a program for a given billing period, you can introduce six days to the employee in one working week. Still, in the next one, it would be necessary to compensate him and enter only four working days. Ideally, the average 5-day working week should be kept.

Holidays and holidays for employees

If the schedule is prepared for a more extended period, it is also worth looking at the vacation plan. Remember that people employed under an employment contract once a year should take a leave of at least 14 days. The absence of an employee for such a long time significantly impacts the plant’s work schedule.

Although there are relatively few non-working days during the year, you need to know which months they fall out. The employer does not schedule work on these days unless work is permitted on public holidays. For such days, persons employed under an employment contract are entitled to an overtime bonus of 100% in addition to the basic salary.
